Sandvik to close Derbyshire production

Construction and mining machinery producer Sandvik is closing production at its UK home office in Swadlincote, Derbyshire and consolidating at its Nortthern Ireland plant in Ballygawley.

The Swedish company is cutting 360 jobs in Derbyshire but adding 160 in Northern Ireland. Whenever they the make room the subsequent 12 months.

Director Terry Allison said “Since the major downturn in 2008/9, the world industry for our products has not yet recovered as quickly as there were hoped. Were currently running two factories at 50% capacity. It is neither efficient nor sustainable.

“In order to stay competitive, we propose moving the whole production onto the Ballygawley site, which is the correct size to meet the current and anticipated interest in our mobile crushers and screeners.”
